For many months I suffered from an acutely painful shoulder condition that required surgery. As I waited for a hospital appointment the medication I had been prescribed to alleviate the symptoms seemed increasingly less effective and I began to wonder whether any other treatment might help.
I was aware of the claims made for acupuncture in relieving pain but I must confess that I was both a little sceptical about its efficacy and concerned about having needles stuck into my body. As the discomfort worsened I decided I had nothing to lose by trying acupuncture and made an appointment with Sarah.
The session began with a detailed discussion about my condition as Sarah gathered as much information as possible in order to locate the needles in the most ppropriate positions. Then, after ensuring I was relaxed and comfortable, Sarah began to insert the needles. I was pleasantly surprised at how little sensation I experienced when this was happening - except for one needle that Sarah adjusted immediately. During the treatment session the needles were agitated in position a couple of times and then it was over. I need have had no concerns.
During that evening I felt a slight lessening of the pain but a much more noticeable improvement the following day. However, the day after that was quite remarkable. I experienced the first virtually pain free day for months.
If it had not been for the fact that my hospital appointment was suddenly brought forward I would have returned for another session the next week as repeated sessions would have had a cumulative effect.
