Indian head massage has been practised in India for over 4000 years and is normal practice, often performed in homes, barber shops and street corners, on a daily basis. From birth children are regularly given Indian head massage as a way of life and from the age of around six they are taught how to give massage within the family.
Indian head massage came to the UK in the 1970’s by a man called Narendra Metha. Whilst visiting a barber he was disappointed to only receive a haircut and not a head massage that he would normally receive in his country. Whilst training as a Physical Therapist in the UK, he noticed that the head area was often overlooked and only the body concentrated upon. He returned to India to research Indian Head Massage before coming back to the UK with a massage routine that we now know as Indian Head Massage today.
Indian Head Massage is performed seated in a chair, either through clothes without oil or on the skin using oils. It is a wonderfully relaxing therapy that is becoming ever popular, especially in the workplaces of today. Many companies are now allowing therapists into the workplace to perform mini treatments on their employees in order to reduce stress and tension at work.
Things I need to know:
The massage will be an oil based massage so you will need to remove top clothing. A towel will be given to cover yourself so only the neck and shoulders will be exposed. Underwear may be left on.
Oil helps to improve the condition of the hair and makes the massage moves easier to perform, however, it is not completely necessary so oil will not be put onto the face and scalp unless you request it.
The treatment lasts around 45 minutes.
Please drink plenty of water following your treatment. This assists with the removal of toxins. Avoid any kind of stimulants, heavy meals or vigorous exercise for the rest of the day.
Duration - 30 Minutes
Cost - £20
